I had been saving up my next blog entry for this day. It's finally official now - the largest, fastest, best selling video game console of all time is the
Nintendo Wii. Though I have no proof for it, my prediction actually came true. With its fantastic gameplay, responsive remote, cool collection of games, it comes as no surprise. The Wii has taken the world by storm. This week, Wii sales overtook the
Xbox 360 even though the Wii launched a full year after the Xbox. And the
PS3 (chuckle) is way behind where the numbers are concerned. The Wii has forced Microsoft and Sony to drop the prices of their consoles and consider alternate marketing strategies.
See the picture below from
VGChartz below. VGChartz provides statistics based on actual number of consoles stored.
And what's even better - I managed to get one for myself (thanks bro, once again). I can go on and on about playing the Wii, but all it would take is you to hold a
Wiimote in your hand and fire up a game of
Wii Sports Tennis, and you'll be sold. I have two friends with their Wii's on their way. If you want to experience the magic that is Wii - come on over.
I admit that the Wii is not meant for hardcore gamers, the Wii will take over as the life of any party that you may host - and ones that you take it to as well.
Pieces of advice:
- Get at least two Wiimotes and Nunchuks. You'll need them. One way to get the additional Wiimote is to get a Wii play game DVD that comes with a free Wiimote. Shooting, table tennis, laser hockey and charge! are actually quite fun to play.
- Customize your experience by creating Miis (pronounced 'me'). It's fun to play with cartoon replicas and it more personal.
- You can download classic Nintendo and Sega titles from the Shop Channel. That means you can play Super Mario Brothers (and someday hopefully, Contra) right on your Wii.
My current gamelist:
Get one today. You won't regret your decision.
